Regents Park Open Air Theatre Season 2018

May 17, 2018

London is famed for its theatreland.  The West End has countless theatres offering almost every possible type of production, from opera and ballet to musicals, comedies, satires and pure drama.  But one of the most popular of all the theatres in London can only be enjoyed during the summer.

This is Regents Park Open Air Theatre.  A beautiful, atmospheric amphitheater set in a secluded glade with Regents Park, it attracts over 140,000 theatre goers during its eighteen week season.  Almost every seat is invariably filled, no matter what the weather. Booking is definitely recommended well in advance of the performance date.

Not only is this a very popular venue, it is also where you can find many top actors and actresses performing in a wide range of productions.  Some, like Ralph Fiennes, have even made their debut on the London stage at this location. Over the years the roll call of performers have included the likes of Dame Judi Dench, Zoe Wannamaker, Felicity Kendal, Robert Helpmann and Jeremy Irons.

This year, the season ranges from Shakespeare to an American rock musical. The choice is certainly wide.  You can relax with Shakespeare’s romantic comedy As You Like it; travel to the magical world of Neverland with Peter Pan or thrill to a ghost story in Henry James’ Turn of the Screw.  Head to an American florist and his talking Venus Fly Trap in Little Shop of Horrors or discover a long-lost world in the Dinosaur World Live production. Book your stay at hotel near Kensington which is close proximity to Regent’ Park.

Whatever the production, you are guaranteed a night to remember.  The Regents Park Open Air Theatre has become a cultural icon, having been in existence now for over 80 years. It is one of the largest theatres in London.

You can even enjoy a full day’s activity within Regent’s Park.  Bring a picnic and relax before the performance amid the pretty landscaped grounds that surround the theatre.  Or you can go for a walk up Primrose Hill and enjoy spectacular views across London. Alternatively, why not visit another London icon – London Zoo, as this occupies a large corner of Regents Park.
