London Street Food Scene

Vibrant, lively and entertaining; London’s Street Food scene is fantastic.  There are countless places scattered throughout London where you can obtain really brilliant, high quality street food from Taiwanese style buns to Mexican, Italian and modern British. The environment is always relaxed and you can choose from a wide range of food and drink.  We take a look at some of the best.

Over in Shoreditch, Dinerama is open every Thursday to Saturday from 5pm until late.  This is where you can find wonderful wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas, Dumplings in spicy sauces, big cocktails and brilliant beers. It’s innovative, lively and has a great atmosphere. Similar Street Feasts can be enjoyed at  the Giant Robot in Canary Wharf and Hawker House in Canada Water or down at the Model Market in Lewisham, South London.

Kerb Camden is one of London’s biggest street food markets, with around 34 traders operating 7 days a week.  Situated beside the Regent’s Canal, with access to the London Water Buses, it makes a really nice place to visit.  This is a daytime venue, and attracts countless tourists as well as locals. You can definitely find some of the most exciting cuisine in London here, showing its diversity and dynamism. The biggest problem is always trying to choose between the sheer variety on offer.

Kerb Kings Cross is a collection of traders operating from a series of mobile vans close to Kings Cross railway station.  This is one of the oldest street food markets in London, and is certainly one of the most popular. The ethnic diversity is incredible, and offers the opportunity to try food from all over the world.  Friendly traders are happy to discuss the food with you and provide information about its cultural origins. A Kerb Market is also held close to Paddington Station in west London. Operating times vary, but you can generally guarantee to find a good selection of traders available every lunchtime, and often throughout the afternoon.

London has many street markets trading during the week at places like Berwick Street, Soho and Leather Lane, Holborn as well as Sunday markets such as Petticoat Lane.  All these markets sell a variety of foodstuffs along with other merchandise, and tend to have numerous food stalls ranging from traditional fish & chips to pizzas and burritos. Now book hotels near Kensington to take advantage.

Down in Brixton, head for the Brixton Village and Market Row to find an incredible selection of food styles from South America, the Caribbean, Asia, Africa, India and Europe.  High quality, and a great atmosphere, it is friendly, cheerful and varied.
